What are Tugi Grants?
In Estonian, the word “Tugi” is used to describe a range of supports, which is exactly what the InFTF Tugi Grant Program is designed to provide. However, this isn’t just another grant program – this program is designed so that an independent judge panel can make funding decisions to provide one time, fixed-award grants to applicants seeking financial support. In developing these grants, the InFTF aims to encourage as wide a base of applicants as possible – anyone with a creative idea is welcome to apply!
Tugi Grants provide applicants with a straightforward process to seek a set amount of support (60,000 XAH per award) to help achieve their goals. Proposal topics are nearly limitless, and they can encompass anything from creating art through software development. Applicants do not need to focus on technology or have a background in blockchain.
The Motivation Behind Tugi Grants
When the Xahau Network launched, the InFTF was awarded a significant sum of XAH, the native token on the Network, as an incentive to promote the health of the underlying ecosystem. All accounts holding XAH on the Network are eligible to earn 4% interest annually, paid on a monthly basis. Thus, the InFTF will leverage the smart contract functionality of the Xahau Network to automatically move 75% of each balance adjustment reward transaction to a publicly visible account on the Xahau Network dedicated specifically to grants. In the event that the full amount deposited is not awarded in a given month, the funds will remain in the account, available for future awards.
At the time of writing, this means that approximately 600,000 XAH will be awarded across 10 recipients each month, with 60,000 XAH going to each awardee.
Tugi Grant Applications
Tugi Grants are designed to target a wide range of applicants. Thus, there is not a single application format. Applicants can include any materials they deem relevant, such as written or video descriptions of their proposal. When submitting applications, assume that the judges are not familiar with existing projects or work. Include relevant details and explanations, so the judges do not have to research topics excessively.
Applicants will be judged by a panel who operate independently from the InFTF. In keeping with the spirit of the Tugi Grants, this panel will consist of an odd number of judges with backgrounds across multiple professions and nationalities. Provided a project does not violate legal or regulatory requirements, judges will have broad discretion in determining which projects merit awards.
Submit complete applications and questions via email: [email protected]. Due to the number of applications, applicants are not guaranteed a response. There are no application deadlines, submissions will be evaluated on a rolling basis. Awardees will receive 60,000 XAH and must provide an address that they control on the Xahau Network.
Applicants are encouraged to use their discretion regarding how to structure their application materials, however, all applications must include:
- The applicant’s full legal name and birthdate
- The applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residency
- The applicant’s Xahau Network address
- Any applicant who received a previous Tugi grant must include details regarding the outcome of the prior funding. Demonstrate how the goals of the previous grant were met after funding was received.
Fine Print
Applicants can receive a maximum of four Tugi Grants (240,000 XAH) in a calendar year. While applicants are not required to demonstrate outcomes achieved with the funding, anyone who has been awarded and is applying for a subsequent grant should include documentation of how previous funds were used.
The InFTF will conduct due diligence on applicants, and all applicants are required to provide their legal identification. Projects that conflict with relevant laws and regulations will not be eligible for awards. Examples include projects promoting gambling, multilevel marketing schemes, substance use or drugs, and sexually explicit content. Similarly, applicants located in some geographic regions may not be eligible, based on sanctions and/or other requirements. The InFTF reserves the right to deny funding to applicants at their discretion, as required by law.
This is a trial program, and the InFTF may alter or end the program at any time.
